Birth Photography Resources + Facts
Deciding to hire a birth photographer is not only a financial investment, but a deeply personal one. Birth is a uniquely sacred space - one that can shift quickly in moments of intensity or emergency, yet also offers the opportunity to begin a visual legacy of your baby’s story, exactly as it unfolds.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I am unsure I want every moment documented?
That is completely ok. Birth photography is never about documenting everything at all costs. It is about honoring your comfort and boundaries. You are always in control, and there is space for uncertainty. We can talk through what feels meaningful to you ahead of time, and that conversation can continue throughout labor as needs shift.
How do you hold space during something so intimate and vulnerable?
Holding space means being present without expectation. I work quietly, intentionally, and with deep respect for the emotional weight of the birth space. My role is not to direct or interfere, but to witness what unfolds while prioritizing your privacy, comfort, and sense of safety above anything else.
Will having a photographer change the energy of my birth?
This is one of the most common and valid concerns. My approach is rooted in observation, not performance. Many families share that after the initial moments, they forget I'm there. My goal is to blend into the rhythm of your birth, supporting the existing energy rather than altering it.
What if something doesn’t go according to plan?
Birth is unpredictable, and plans can change quickly. I approach every birth with flexibility, sensitivity, and respect for medical teams and emergent situations. My priority is always safety, consent, and documenting with care.
What if I change my mind during labor?
You can change your mind at any time. Consent is ongoing and respected in the moment. Whether that means stepping back, pausing, or adjusting boundaries, you never need to explain or justify your needs. Birth is fluid, and your comfort comes first.
Do you work with other doulas and/or home birth midwives in my area?
Yes! Thankfully we have an amazing community of birth workers. I’m happy to collaborate with doulas and home birth midwives and value a team approach to care that supports you best. If you’re still looking, I may also be able to share referrals to trusted providers in your area!

While I do everything possible to arrive in time, some births move faster than expected. If I’m unable to arrive before birth, I will still document the immediate moments after - meeting your baby. first feedings, and the early connection that follows.
-
Because I take on a limited number of births each month to ensure availability and care, it’s best to reach out as earl as possible - often in the second trimester.
